Bio

He has been called “Hilarious!” by the New York Observer.

Christopher Ciccone, best-selling author of “Life With My Sister Madonna” called him “Dietrich…with balls.”

Marc Shaiman, composer of “Hairspray” saw his show and raved, “Kinda pitchy.”

Ryan Raftery most recently landed a recurring role on ABC’s Emmy Award-winning comedy series “Ugly Betty.”  Last month, Ryan warmed hearts all over the world on “Law & Order: SVU” as Dennis Faber, the rebellious Amish teenager with measles.

Ryan was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts before moving out to Los Angeles. His network television debut occurred on the WB's "What I Like About You," where he played opposite Amanda Bynes of “Hairspray” fame.

Most memorably, Ryan played "Dick," the dancer who takes himself a little too seriously, opposite Frankie Muniz in the final season of "Malcolm in the Middle."

Joel Hirschornn of VARIETY came to see Ryan in the musical "What If?," at the Hudson Theatre in Los Angeles.  "Ryan Raftery exhibits natural boyish charm and poise as a performer," he said.  Then he died.  Seriously.

Mel Brooks, who saw the very same performance, called Raftery a "true comedic talent".  He is still alive.

In 2008, Ryan began work on his one man show, “Ryan Raftery & Friends: A SOLO ACT”.  The show originally played Paris Commune’s Rouge Wine Bar where it “changed lives bi-weekly” until demand for admission forced the transfer to a larger venue.  It now resides at the Laurie Beechman Theatre, steps away from Times Square.

Other credits include playing "Lil' E," a Hispanic coke-whore in “Ann E. Wrecksick and the Odyssey of the Bulimic Orphans.”  Ryan was also a part of the workshop reading of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman's new musical “Catch Me if You Can,” and several non-award-winning TV pilots that can be viewed in the dumpster behind NBC Universal.
